Dust Ruffle Wars

Every spring and fall I change my bedroom accessories to reflect the seasons. In the spring and summer, the bedding has a pink and blue floral pattern and the picture on the wall is an ocean scene at sunset...also in shades of pink and blue. The ensemble for fall and winter is a Moracan pattern in dark blue and burgundy. I change the picture to one of hot air balloons against a dark blue sky. Today was the big day to go "winter". Each time I do this changeover, I wonder about the need for a dust ruffle. What are they good for? I haven't noticed them stopping dust from entering my home. The big question though...what is the best way to change a dust ruffle? Here are step by step directions based on today's experience:
1. Stand at the foot of the bed and lift mattress using both hands.
2. Raise end of mattress high enough to enable you to balance it with your head.
3. Begin smoothing dust ruffle into place atop the box spring.
4. Discover that your arms are way too short to achieve success in this endeavor.
5. Try to look around for a long stick or something to assist you.
6. Discover that you can't look around much with a mattress on your head.
7. Notice with horror that the cat has jumped up on the box spring to see if this is some sort of
new game. Finding that it's not a game, cat decides to settle down and start washing herself.
8. Begin waving "too short" arms wildly in order to scare the cat off the box spring before your
neck snaps from the weight of the mattress.

Happily, the dust ruffle is now in place and I'm off to new adventures with the vacuum cleaner and dust rag.
